At J. David Jewelry we size rings on a goldsmith’s bench at our three Tulsa showrooms, in Broken Arrow, South Tulsa and Brookside. The estimate is free. Most gold and platinum rings can be sized up or down; tungsten, steel and titanium cannot, and we will say so before you leave the counter.
A ring should feel like it was always yours. Not spinning on a cold morning, not stuck past the knuckle in July. Hands change, and a ring that was sized right ten years ago may not be right today. Sizing is the smallest job we do and the one that changes how a ring is worn every single day.
Some stores size rings while you wait, with a stretcher or a quick cut at the front. We don’t. Every ring we size goes onto a goldsmith’s bench, on the schedule, and is cut, fitted and finished by hand. The seam is soldered, worked and polished until you cannot find it. When you drop the ring off we tell you the day it will be ready, and we text you when it is.
Nearly any ring in gold or platinum, up or down. Plain bands, solitaires, halos, rings with diamonds set part of the way around. A ring with a pattern or engraving on the foundation can usually be sized and the pattern carried through. Bring it in and let a goldsmith look at it with you. The looking is free.
There are two ways to start, and neither is the wrong one. Bring the ring to any of our three Tulsa showrooms and we check the fit on your hand, not on a chart — that is the solid answer, because the hand wins. Or start by text and schedule an appointment. Send a photo, the metal if you know it, and how it fits today, and we’ll do our best from a picture: whether it can be sized, which way, and what to expect.
We would rather tell you here than at the counter.
Tungsten, steel, titanium and the other alternative metals cannot be sized. They are too hard to cut and cannot be soldered, so a ring in one of those metals is the size it is. If it no longer fits, the honest answer is a new ring.
An eternity band, with diamonds set all the way around, has no plain metal to cut. It can sometimes be sized down, seldom up, and only a goldsmith with the ring in hand can say which. A tension setting, where the diamond is held by the spring of the metal itself, changes its grip if the band changes length. Bring either one in and we will tell you what is possible for that ring, but we will not promise before we have seen it.
If you are choosing a ring now, tell us whether it is for someone whose size you cannot ask. We size after the surprise more often than you would think, and there is no shame in it. It is easier to size a ring before it has been worn, so if the fit is in doubt, come in soon.
Which metals can be sized, and which cannot, is in our guide to jewelry metals. For anything else a ring needs, see jewelry repair.
The ring goes onto a goldsmith’s bench on the schedule, and we tell you the ready date when you drop it off. Most bench work is home within two to three weeks; a simple sizing is often sooner.
No. Tungsten, steel, titanium and other alternative metals are too hard to cut and cannot be soldered. A ring in those metals is the size it is.
Sometimes, and not always. With diamonds set all the way around there is no plain metal to cut, so sizing means moving diamonds. Bring it in and we will tell you what is possible for that ring.
Yes. Bring it to any of our three showrooms.
Done properly, no. The seam is soldered, worked and polished until it cannot be found, and the diamonds are checked before the ring goes home.

Every heirloom begins with a story. Hear from the families who let us be a part of theirs.
Katelyn helped me resize and refresh my wedding ring. She was knowledgeable, professional, and incredibly sweet. She made the experience easy and enjoyable, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. I highly recommend asking for Katelyn
Had a fantastic experience at J David! Bought an engagement ring last year and a wedding band this year. Maelei and Susan were especially super helpful and patient with us and found us the perfect matches!
One big request I had for Hayley was to make sure any leftover gold from the ring was returned to me. Not only did she make sure I got the gold, but Scott even turned it into a small pendant!
